Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. The American Cancer Society (ACS) estimates that an additional 212,920 invasive and 61,980 in situ cases of female breast cancer will occur in the United States. They also predict 40,870 women die from it. There is no sure way to prevent breast cancer, but women can take measures to catch it early on when it's easiest to treat.

Many women in America cannot afford mammograms. Battered and homeless shelters are filled with women who are desperate for help. If you have no money, you have no money, especially for insurance. The poor are not the only ones without insurance. Working poor  women, those who have jobs but cannot make ends meet, are finding themselves with a limited ability to take care of their own health need because they do not have insurance.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation continues to seek funding for mammography services for these women.
